Cam Newton Is Losing His Patience and His Chance to Start for the New England Patriots in Week 1

The New England Patriots have been waiting for the Carolina Panthers to release their starting quarterback, Cam Newton, so they can sign him. However, with a contract holdout and no end in sight for his holdout, the Patriots may be forced to start Tom Brady.

Cam Newton, the Carolina Panthers quarterback, is reportedly losing his patience and his chance to start for the New England Patriots in Week 1. The reason for this is that Newton has been unable to pass a physical due to a shoulder injury he suffered during last year’s Super Bowl.

Cam Newton is a quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, the quarterback for the New England Patriots, is attempting to grin as he approaches the conclusion of his career. Unfortunately for the 2015 NFL MVP, the mask can only be maintained for so long.

Newton’s effort to maintain composure in the face of a quarterback duel with Mac Jones is beginning to backfire. Simultaneously, his odds of starting against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1 seem to be dwindling by the day, and he is well aware of this.

Cam Newton expressed his displeasure with reporters who questioned him about the quarterback competition.

Newton has enough experience in the NFL to know that news conferences can be awkward, particularly when competing for a starting quarterback position.

If a recent press conference with reporters is any indication, the three-time Pro Bowl selection is becoming overwhelmed by the continuing competition. Newton informed the Boston Herald that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has yet to tell him whether or not he will start against the Dolphins on Sept. 12.

Newton has also expressed his dissatisfaction with the continuous discussion of the quarterback competition.

“You guys are up here asking me stupid things, and I’m staring at you with the same expression. I’m not sure what you want me to say. You’re well aware of this. You know [Belichick hasn’t chosen a starting quarterback], so simply asking the question is fine.”

Newton immediately added that he doesn’t take the reporters’ queries personally, as he is no used to comments being taken out of context and becoming viral.

Newton said, “I just want you guys to realize, whatever y’all know, I know.”

Bill Belichick should seriously consider starting Newton in Week 1 of the season.

Belichick maintained Newton would remain his starting quarterback in the weeks and months after the Patriots re-signed him to a one-year contract in March.

As the season approaches, the tone is beginning to shift, at least on the surface. On Thursday, Aug. 12, Newton made his preseason debut for the Patriots and completed four of seven passes for 49 yards. In the Patriots’ 22-13 win against the Washington Football Team, Jones, the 15th overall selection out of Alabama, took over and went 13-of-19 for 87 yards.

The eye test, on the other hand, revealed a Newton whose throws seemed laborious on each of his drives. Jones may not have scored an 80-yard touchdown like San Francisco 49ers rookie Trey Lance, but the first-year Patriots quarterback was impressive in his six drives.

Despite this, Belichick should start Newton in Week 1 with the older quarterback. During the offseason, the Patriots completely overhauled their offensive line, acquiring players like former Los Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry and former Las Vegas Raiders wide Nelson Agholor. They’ll go a long way toward assisting Newton in scoring the points he couldn’t last year with inferior guys.

Jones is unquestionably Newton’s and, by extension, Tom Brady’s heir apparent. Giving Newton the early starts and re-evaluating as the season progresses will cost the Patriots nothing in the long run. The worst thing the Patriots can do is put Jones out early and attempt to rush outcomes in the hopes of making him the next Brady right away.

Newton may be recognizing that his career is coming to an end.

Newton, believe it or not, is in his 11th season in the NFL. At 32 years old, he will play the whole 2023 season and is a long way from becoming one of the NFL’s bright young stars.

This season may be Newton’s last chance to open the season as a starter. With the amount of mileage and injury history that the three-time Pro Bowler has, teams may be hesitant to sign a 33-year-old quarterback next year.

Careers, particularly for dual-threat quarterbacks, may alter in an instant. Just ask Robert Griffin III, a college football and NFL commentator who just joined ESPN. Traditional pocket passers like Brian Hoyer and Ryan Fitzpatrick have been able to stay in the league well into their 30s because to their passing abilities. Newton may be able to join that elite group if he can develop his game-management skills.

On the one hand, we empathize for Newton, who may be seeing the end of his career. But yelling at reporters and obsessing about the quarterback competition isn’t worth it, particularly for a veteran with so much to offer.
